Saturday November 1st was National Learn to Homebrew Day. Learn to Homebrew Day was first established by the American Homebrewers Association (AHA) in 1999 to encourage homebrewers to introduce their non-brewer friends and family to the most rewarding hobby, obsession and lifestyle of homebrewing!
Our event was planned very last minute (thanks Dick Thunder!) but we were able to team up with the guys at Gravel Bottom Craft Brewery and Supply. Members from 616brewing Homebrew Club, Primetime Brewers Homebrew Club, and Gravel Bottom braved the frigid Michigan temperatures to put on a brewing demostration for the local community. Beers brewed included Roggenbier (German Rye Beer), Bier de Garde, and a Porter (doesn’t sound as exciting as the other two, but I make a mean porter). We met many new people who wanted to learn more about the brewing process, and we were more than happy to share our knowledge. It was a fun day of brewing and enjoying a few pints of beer with some new friends!
Look for us to plan something bigger next year with our friends at Gravel Bottom!
